We reached that point in time where people think everything they read online is AI. It was inevitable and we reached it.

Why am I writing this?

The title says it all. Not everything is AI and it is very easy to believe all is AI.

The Best Example – The Em Dash

The em dash (—) is a punctuation mark often used to set off extra information, replace a colon, a semicolon, or signal an abrupt change in thought. It is longer than the hyphen (-) and the much lesser-known en dash (–). You can often see it used in pairs as it can set off a clause but it is common even by itself to show a sudden break.

Here’s the deal!

ChatGPT uses way too many em dashes. This is true. It looks like it is its preferred punctuation mark. Because of this, an incredibly large number of people believe that everything they see with an em dash in it is written by AI. In truth, the em dash is a punctuation mark that is used by good writers for the reasons highlighted above.

What does this mean in reality?

Good writers that are using the em dash with a proper purpose are labeled as being AI. I cannot even begin to express how problematic that is.

What Actually Matters!

Here’s the deal!

We are at the point in which it is very, very, very hard not to use AI tools. They are so advanced and produce content so fast that big companies adopted them.

It is completely true that high-quality content will always be better and that is what you have to strive for but there are countless industries in which AI is capable of creating that quality content. And you cannot compete with it because of the sheer volume it can handle.

A quite successful local entrepreneur here said a very interesting thing:

“Mediocre businesses that will start to use AI will become higher quality and great businesses that do not use AI will become mediocre.”

And, unfortunately, he is right.

It takes you hours to write a very good post for a blog. With the help of AI tools (not AI writing tools but AI tools in general), you can write it in a quarter of the time. And people have to accept this harsh reality. It is sad, but you will not stop mediocre writers, marketers, so on from using the tools. And their exposure will be so much higher than yours.

So what does actually matter now?

As always, the content that you create.

If you create quality content, you will still be in a good position. This does mean using AI as a tool to help you produce that quality content faster. You can definitely use AI tools to create mass content, which is mediocre in terms of quality. That will also generate income and will bring in a certain level of success. However, there is a limit to that.

The truth is that it still takes a human to manage the entire content creation process to produce quality. And that human needs to be good at what they do. AI is just a tool. It is up to you to use it properly.
