Rollerdrome appeared in 2022, an exclusive for PlayStation. It was then added to Xbox Game Pass, a unique combo of shooting and roller skating. Critics love it because of aesthetics, quite unique ideas, and the fast-paced action gameplay.
What not everyone knows though is what Take-Two Interactive did. The original developer of the game, Roll7, was completely shut down. Right now, none of the game devs that worked on the project are involved with Rollerdrome. This is quite disgusting.
Anisa Sanusi was the interface/experience designer responsible for the original Rollerdrome. He went on Twitter and offered congratulations for the second anniversary of the game. At the same time, he asked the fans to straight up pirate it.
This quite unusual request is definitely completely understandable. When Take-Two shut down Intercept Games and Roll7, every person who actively worked on Rollerdrome was laid off.
You know what is particularly disgusting?
Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two CEO, increased how much he is paid this year. The amount mentioned was $26 million. At the same time, Roll 7 shipped highly successful commercial games.
How did Take-Two Interactive get away with it? The company basically said the studios were not shut down but several reports came in that all the workers were actually laid off.
Such corporate practices are simply horrible. Your employees do great work for you and you then lay them off.
Disgusting!
