This happened before my credit card details were leaked but I did want to talk about it a little because the situation is quite stupid.

I do not really use Facebook. Who does these days? I have a big feeling that the vast majority of active Facebook users these days are just gen X-ers and boomers. Ow, and, of course, MAGA people who we do not really care about.

So, I haven’t used my Facebook account for a very, very long time. One day I receive a message that someone logged in. I did not really care much about it. In fact, I only started carrying when I got the extra messages.

Here is what is weird. I got a message from Facebook saying that a security code (or whatever they call it) was requested from my phone. I was like, everything is ok since only I get that. Guess what! The hacker actually bypassed that. Then, the next email I get from Facebook is saying that my password was changed. I went in the account and entered the previous password/email combination.

Facebook quickly reacted and locked the account.

Here comes the funny part!

I started going through the procedure needed to recover the account. The problem is that it asks me to enter my credit card number as confirmation. Which is problematic since that card is expired. It had been expired for like years now. I cannot possibly remember the details of a credit card I used around 10 years ago (the last time I bought Facebook Ads).

Conclusion

My Facebook account is gone. Obviously, I tried to contact customer support. Everyone who had problems with Facebook knows how that goes. No more FB account.

What is alarming though is the hacker managed to get past the verification process involving the phone. This is not at all great as it highlights a huge security vulnerability. Nobody has access to my phone except me.

So, congratulations Facebook! Your security system is very, very good! The best in the world!
