Why I Chose To Stream With OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) Studio

I am not gonna lie. When I first started streaming, I did not want to take it seriously. Not even now, I do not take it that seriously since most of my income comes from other sources. Since I was already making money and I just wanted to have some fun, I just went with Twitch Studio, the platform’s official broadcasting software.

Obviously, there are other options available. I did my own research back then and settled on OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) Studio. From my point of view, this is practically the best option available. It is great for everyone, from professional gamers to Just Chatting streamers. It gives you all you need to broadcast at the highest possible quality and do it on YouTube, Twitch, and more.

Basically, OBS is so flexible that you can use it for practically any type of streaming you might want to do. True, it is technical, but here’s the truth:

It is better to just learn how to use OBS Studio from the start than to then have to do it at a later point in time.

Main Advantages Of Using OBS Studio

On the whole, OBS is preferred for those who want to stream efficiently and need to gain access to as much customization as possible. The main advantages you have to know are:

  • Completely free.
  • Open-source.
  • Cross-platform compatibility.
  • Very high customization options.
  • Very low resource usage.

It is enough to say that you can use over 120 plugins in OBS Studio. This means you can customize your stream exactly how you want to.

Main Disadvantages Of Using OBS Studio

Obviously, there are some disadvantages that have to be highlighted. The main ones are:

  • Lack of advanced editing.
  • The software is really complex and takes time to learn.
  • There is no support since OBS is open-source.

Basically, OBS Studio is meant for live streaming, not for recording and advanced editing. For such purposes, you should use something else.

But What About Streamlabs?

OK. There are so many people out there who prefer using Streamlabs and it is very easy to understand why. One thing you most likely do not know is that Streamlabs was build on the Open Broadcast Software engine. This means you find many of the features.

Let’s keep it as simple as possible:

  • OBS Studio is the best choice when you want customization, control, and you want the best that streaming software can offer.
  • Streamlabs is much better for beginners or for those people who do not want to bother too much with the technical aspect of streaming.

Final Thoughts

For me it is very simple. OBS Studio is the best broadcasting software around because it is the most complex, stable, and offers the most possible features. So, if you want something professional, you should seriously consider using it. If your focus is more on video production, you can use another one.
